Locals in awe as family of deer spotted crossing the road in Fairmilehead

LOCALS were stunned to see footage of a family of deer running across streets and pavements in south Edinburgh’s Fairmilehead area.

The deer were seen prancing along the streets, which were luckily empty at the time.

A local managed to capture the family on camera as they made their way across the road to some grass, stopping to graze in front of them.

Deer have been seen in many parts of Edinburgh, particularly in the nearby Swanston Golf Club and often in wooded areas such as Blackford and the Pentlands.

A video was posted to a Fairmilehead community group on Monday, showing the deer moving together at 7:15 in the morning.

A group of six deer bound across Buckstone, tentatively crossing the road and glancing back at the camera before moving towards a grassy patch to rest.

The video received over 480 likes and almost 50 comments, with many in awe of the creatures, and some concerned for their wellbeing.

One user said: “My heart is breaking knowing they are just trying to find somewhere to call home.  So vulnerable”

Another replied: “Recognise them from the golf course”

A third commented: “So beautiful. I’ve only ever seen four together.”

A fourth responded: “That’s amazing to have seen that there. Hope they find their way back safely to the woods.”

Whilst a fifth lamented: “Heartbreaking.

“They are being forced out of their natural habitat by all of the horrible new build properties in the area. Give nature a home.”
