AN OUTAGE yesterday saw all traffic lights and signage on the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720) and parts of the M8 lose power.
Junctions one to two of the M8 by Hermiston Gait and Newbridge were affected, as well as 3a to 6 from Bathgate to Newhouse.
The A720, which circles the south of Edinburgh, lost power along its whole route from around 2pm yesterday.
As well as this, the M9 at Newbridge also suffered a loss of power, meaning three of Scotland’s busiest roads were affected.

Emergency roadside telephones (ERT) were also not working along these routes.
Traffic Scotland, who monitor Scotland’s trunk roads, posted to social media yesterday, saying: “Power Outage 14:04. The affected routes are: A720 (whole route)
“M8 JCT 1-2 and 3a-6. M8 JCT2 – M9 Newbridge RB.
“All traffic lights, Traffic Scotland signage and ERT phones are down due to a Scottish Power outage.
“Updates as we get them.”
A Scottish Power spokesperson said today: “A fallen tree caused damage to an overhead line during the high winds.
“Our engineers were despatched to make repairs as swiftly and safely as possible to restore power.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience.”
