A GROUP of 14 British MPs, including Dr Scott Arthur who represents Edinburgh South West, have traveled to Ukraine to strengthen international support.

As today marks three years since the start of Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, MPs are meeting with locals and observing meetings in the Ukrainian parliament.

During a sitting of the Ukrainian Parliament, an air alert meant that the building, including the 14 British MPs, was evacuated underground.

This comes as the UK Government announced that they have today imposed the largest sanctions package against Russia since 2022.

The 14 MPs arrived in Ukraine after a one hour drive up to the border with Poland on Friday.

They then travelled to Lviv which lies around 70km from the Polish border, arriving at around 10pm that night.

The group have been pictured waiting inside a shelter whilst a Russian drone attack occurred nearby.

In the picture, they are seen using a projector to watch the 2017 film Darkest Hour, which follows the life of Winston Churchill as Prime Minister during the Second World War.

Dr Scott Arthur posted another video to social media, in which he said of the Ukrainian people: “One reflection is that people are in a state of shock after some comments which have been made on the world’s stage.

“Through that, they are determined not to be defeated and, in fact, to win.”

He posted a video to social media today showing women wearing traditional clothes and singing in Ukrainian.

The caption reads: “Today marks three years since the start of Putin’s brutal and illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“This is not just a military battle for the Ukrainian people—they are fighting to preserve their freedom, culture, and history.

“If you care about democracy, you should care about Ukraine.

Other MPs traveling to Ukraine from Scotland include Stephen Gethins for Arbroath and Broughty Ferry, Graeme Downie for Dunfermline and Dollar, and Johanna Baxter for Paisley and Renfrewshire South.

During a sitting of the Ukrainian Parliament, an air alert was sent to mobile phones meaning that the building was evacuated underground.

The Ukrainian Parliament has procedures in place to protect the building and those inside, including armed soldiers and barricades on windows.

Today, the UK Government imposed over 100 new sanctions directly targeting those who continue to aid the invasion from Russia.

This will target military supply chains and funds fuelling the war.
