A BUS driver has announced his retirement after nearly 30 years spent on Edinburgh’s public transport.
Bobby Mellor worked for Lothian Buses for 28 years, ferrying locals around the Scottish capital.
Completing countless trips back and forth over almost three decades, Bobby has been honoured by his long-time employer for his prolonged service.
The bus operator shared a photo of Bobby to social media on Friday and congratulated him on his long service, prompting an outpouring of support from service users and locals in the community.
Bobby was photographed in front of a bus displaying a message on its screen saying: “Happy retirement Bob. After 28 years at Lothian.”
Lothian Buses said on Friday: “We’re wishing a very happy retirement to one of our drivers based at Central, Bobby Mellor, who is saying goodbye to the Lothian family today after being a driver for almost 30 years.
“On behalf of everyone at team Lothian, Bobby, we hope you have a long and happy retirement – thank you for all your years of service.”
Bobby’s retirement announcement received over 200 comments from residents of Edinburgh on social media.
An outpouring of support and positive messages for Bobby were received with his long service recognised by both employer and community.
One user said: “Thanks so much for all you do. May the Lord continue to strengthen you.”
Another commented: “You guys and girls are heroes– patient and helpful, skilled and dependable. Appreciated.”
A third added: “Happy retirement driver and thank you for all those years of public service, getting us all home/around safely.”
