Police appeal for information following wilfully caused fire in Leith

POLICE Scotland are appealing for information following a fire in the Leith area of Edinburgh. 

The fire was reported around midnight on Sunday at a block of flats on Prince Regent Street. 

The fire is being treated as wilful, and the police are now appealing for anyone with information, or footage of the incident on a dashcam or private CCTV. 

As well as Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service were in attendance.

Though police have said that there were no reported injuries at the incident, the fire service stated that there was one casualty that was treated at the scene. 

Detective constable Luke Wilson said: “The fire is being treated as wilful and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything to contact us. 

“We also ask anyone with private CCTV or dashcam footage of the area at the time to come forward.” 

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said today: “We were alerted at 00:05am on Sunday, 16 February to reports of a dwelling fire in Edinburgh. 

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the city’s Prince Regent Street, where firefighters were met by a fire within a ground floor property. 

“Firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene. 

“One casualty was treated by paramedics at the scene.” 

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 0053 of 16 February, 2025. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained. 

The Scottish Ambulance service said today: “We received a call at 00:08 on Sunday 16 February to attend an incident on Prince Regent Street, Edinburgh. We dispatched one ambulance and two special operations response teams (SORT) to the scene.”

They confirmed that no patients were transferred to the hospital
