Sam Fender announces Edinburgh Summer Sessions gig

SAM Fender is set to pay a visit to the capital as the singer-songwriter has announced he’ll be playing Edinburgh’s Summer Sessions.

The 30-year-old will be performing at the Royal Highland Showgrounds in Ingliston on Friday, 22 August this year.

Fender announced three dates on his social media pages, with Edinburgh, Belfast and Manchester the trio of locations the BRIT Award winner will visit over the course of 12 days.

The Geordie singer will head to the Scottish capital after a spring-summer tour throughout Europe and America for his new album, People Watching, set to release on 21 February.

Fender will play 26 dates between 4 March and 8 August covering countries like France, Germany and Belgium as well as US states like California, Colorado and Washington.

Fender previously visited Scotland late last year as part of his People Watching tour, playing at the Glasgow OVO Hydro on Monday 16 December.

However, he was forced to cancel all following dates – including an extra Glasgow performance the next day – after haemorrhaging his right vocal chord.

Fender had said he was “heartbroken” at the revelation, but had cancelled the performances at the advice of doctors, who had cited the risk of lasting damage to his voice should he proceed.

However, fans who had tickets for the cancelled shows in December have been granted a silver lining, with Fender announcing yesterday that they will be granted priority access to tickets for the three new shows in August.

Tickets for the Edinburgh show will go on general sale at 10am on Friday, 21 February.

Mark Currie, Royal Highland Centre director of venue, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Sam Fender to the Royal Highland Centre as part of the Summer Sessions.

“His incredible talent and energy make him one of the most exciting live acts around, and we know fans are in for an unforgettable night.

“The Summer Sessions continue to bring world-class artists to our stage here at Ingliston, and this is set to be one of the highlights of the year.”
