AN EDINBURGH pet shop closed for 16 years has finally been put up for sale by the owner.
Pet and Things on Duke Street in Leith, Edinburgh was closed down in 2008 and has since remained untouched.
For 16 years the shop was left exactly as it was on the day it closed with no word on its future.
Now the retail premises consisting of 10,001 square feet has been put on the market and is being sold without an asking price.

The listing was added to Zoopla yesterday with only one image of the front of the shop displayed.
Locals have been left wondering for years what would happen to the closed pet shop and many were left creeped out by it.
Some described it as “eerie”, saying they were scared to look into the windows of the shop frozen in time.
The Zoopla listing describes the property: “The unit comprises a single windowed retail unit arranged over the ground and basement of a four-storey tenement.
“The unit is located within the Leith area of Edinburgh, approximately two miles north of the city centre.
“More specifically the unit is located on the south side of Duke Street, close to its junction with Easter Road and opposite Leith Links.
“Nearby operators include Twelve Triangles, Nauticus Bar and Bombay Spice.”
When the shop shut in 2008, it did so with little warning and communication on its status has been virtually non-existent since.
However, Stag – a barber and hairdresser which has two locations in the Scottish capital – announced in 2022 that they had acquired the Pets and Things building, with plans to open a third establishment there.
Despite this, nothing ever came of the plans and the shop has remained dormant ever since, unchanged and unopened.
One local did spot the shop’s shutters open and the lights on last month, snapping a pic for social media, but reported that there was “absolutely nothing of interest inside”, bar a few odds and ends.
