SETT Studios on Leith Walk is putting on a series of Valentines-themed events, including one where you can decorate your own underwear.
The artist-run gallery is known for their experimental, community led exhibitions and events, including the popular “Flawd Folks” festival that showcases an annual line up of folkloric artwork and peculiar performances.
For the month of February, they are putting on a programme of events called “Love 2 Love 2”, which celebrate “all the divine kitschy glamour that is Valentine’s Day”.
In a series of workshops hosted by resident artists, they will be helping people embellish their own pants, paint portraits of their partners, and learn how to decorate a Valentine’s cake.
The studio, which is volunteer led, posted its schedule to social media earlier this week saying : “As part of our Love 2 Love 2 series of events to celebrate all the divine kitschy glamour that is Valentine’s Day we are going full queer splashy rosey goodness.
“We have a delicious line up of workshops that you will not want to miss.”
Their “Pants Party”, which will take place on 17 February, will provide attendees with their own pre-picked choice of underwear and “everything you would ever want to decorate with to create your playful, perfect pants.”
The gallery will also provide an array of textiles, embroidery, screen-printing screens, and appliques, so that participants can let their imaginations run wild.
The event is also hosted by two resident artists, Esther Stone and Ella Woodcock, whose practices respectively focus on sculpted steel pipes and reclaimed textiles.
Tickets to the Pants Party cover the cost of underwear and are offered at a sliding scale from £20 to £30, where you are encouraged to pay what you can.
Sett Studios state: “We invite you to come and create fun, vibrant, lacey pants embracing maximalism, learning beading, applique, embroidery and screen printing through the power of pants.
“Strut out with confidence and new skills, with your fabulously fun pants.”
Other events in the Love 2 Love 2 series include “Revel in Another’s Gaze”, a portraiture workshop run by multidisciplinary performance artist Aimée McCallum, who will guide participants in creating a portrait of their invited partner.
The following week, cake connoisseur Maria Wrang-Rasmussen will host a cake decorating workshop and photographer Kima Zake will lead an interactive discussion reflecting on boundaries, with each ticket including a free hot toddy.
The love-struck schedule ends with a “Wham Bang Hang”, where dreamy tunes will fill the gallery as you create “immersive valentines themed artwork”.
