MILITARY Chinook and Puma helicopters have been flying over Edinburgh as part of Ministry of Defence (MoD) exercises.
The choppers caused a stir among locals while undergoing exercises from Leuchars Station near the Fife coast.
The exercises involved low flying and irregular hours according to the MoD with the helicopters kicking up a disturbance in the capital.
The exercises are ongoing lasting from 6 February until 21 February with Chinooks and Pumas participating.
Pumas are single rotor choppers used by the RAF in both combat and non-combat roles to transport troops, weapons and other supplies.
Chinooks fill much the same role being double rotor helicopters that are used to carry loads both on and off the battlefield.
The exercises will see both kinds of helicopters flying across the east coast of Scotland with the capital, Fife and Dundee all within the exercise area.
One local reported spotting the helicopters at Dreghorn Barracks in North Edinburgh suggesting it was used in the exercises.
The RAF shared details of the training exercises to social media saying: “From February 6 to 21, RAF Chinooks and Pumas will be training out of Leuchars Aerodrome.
“They will be operating across a variety of locations including the Central Belt, Tayside, and the Highlands.
“Depending on operational requirements, there may be the possibility of these aircraft operating at low altitudes and during irregular hours.
“Please share to those who may have to make arrangements for livestock, or to those who may be concerned at the increased military aircraft presence.
“We thank everyone for their continued support.”
