Locals left furious after spate of extensive fly tipping incidents in quiet East Lothian town

LOCALS have been left furious following a spate of fly tipping incidents in a quiet East Lothian town.

The local community in Haddington have been left fuming after at least two incidents of note over the weekend.

Discovered by resident Donald Lumsden, piles of rubbish in two separate locations were found and shared online with other locals.

One of the incidents occurred in Letham Mains, with piles of litter dumped right next to a river.

Donald snapped a picture of the discarded waste, reported it, and also cleaned up the rubbish and bagged it for the council to collect and dispose of properly.

The second incident occurred just outside of the town on a country road through the village of Gladsmuir.

Donald also discovered this pile of discarded rubbish, cleaning it, bagging it and reporting it to the council yet again.

Sharing images of the fly tipping to social media, Donald said: “Fly tipping on Letham Mains, Holdings Road, Haddington. What a mess. Rubbish bagged for council uplift.”

His post received over 40 likes and more than 20 comments from social media users and locals left disheartened by the discoveries.

One user wrote: “Good on you for dealing with it.”

Another replied: “Thanks for your hard work once again Donald. Why are some people so scummy?”

A third said: “Packed and waiting three weeks for collection?”

Another commented: “Thank you to the litter pickers for their continual hard work for our community.”

A fifth added: “I blame the folk in the new houses.”
