Edinburgh motorist caught in horror pavement parking job at Commonwealth Pool right after city releases fine data

A MOTORIST has been caught pavement parking in a no stopping zone right after the city council released data on pavement parking fines.

The badly parked car was spotted at the Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh yesterday by a furious local.

Not only did the motorist manage to block the pavement after mounting the kerb, but they also left their car parked in a clearly marked no stopping zone.

The tarmac where the motorist parked is clearly painted with a yellow thatched pattern indicating that it is illegal to stop or leave a vehicle there.

They also mounted the kerb with their front tyres, almost hitting the wall on the other side of the pavement and leaving it completely inaccessible.

The horrific parking was spotted by a local just a week after the City of Edinburgh Council released figures on the number of pavement parking fines they had issued.

Pavement parking was made illegal in the city last year after a slew of complaints were made to the council.

It is now punishable by a fine and parking wardens have been instructed to crack down on the bad practice.

Last week the city council released figures showing a whopping 8,000 fines for pavement parking had already been issued.

The new regulations didn’t deter this driver, however, who committed a double offence with their bad parking.

After the car was spotted by a local it was pictured and shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Classic parking at the Commie (sic) Pool.

“Not only on the path but in a hatched box. Suppose it matches all the cars in disabled spaces with no badges.”

The post has received over 75 likes and more than 25 comments from social media users left enraged at the egregious parking.

One user wrote: “Excuse me, I think you’ll find that that is a BMW, and as such is perfectly entitled to park like that.”

Another replied: “We really, and I mean badly, need the ability to snap this, upload it to a portal, and get the drivers fined retrospectively.

“This free for all attitude to parking and general car use in Edinburgh needs massively reigned in.”

A third said: “You could leave a note that says ‘you park like a fud’.”

Another added: “Doesn’t surprise me one bit.”

A fifth commented: “Definitely time for some passive aggressive windscreen notes.”
