Building standards influencer takes aim at Bellway homes in the Scots capital

A BUILDING standards influencer known for exposing shoddy details on new builds has taken aim at Edinburgh’s Bellway development.

New Home Quality Control, a company providing building inspections across the UK, came to fame on TikTok for showcasing their work.

The snagging inspector influencers recently took aim at a south Edinburgh development of new build houses by Bellway.

Taking to social media to expose work they deem unsatisfactory or below-standard, a video created by New Home Quality Control shows the paltry efforts of the developer and builders

The house inspected in the video has a huge number of issues, some of them very serious, with the snagging inspector filming throughout his inspection and showing social media the worst of the worst.

First up he spots a poorly installed gas box which, when opened, damages the outer wall of the new build house.

He then immediately spots another “shocking” issue on the exterior of the building with the air bricks not given the required 75mm clearance from the ground; reiterating this as a recurring issue.

Moving on to the garden fencing, he points out damaged and missing screws in the gate’s hinge fixture.

Continuing inside the building the inspector points out that the ensuite sink is damaged and cracked.

Shockingly he then discovers a loose light switch which he wiggles with his hand to demonstrate the point.

He was left furious with the finish under the stairs in the new build too, directly addressing Bellway and demanding to know if this is their standard.

He calls the finish under the stairs “absolutely shocking” and points out that the client paid nearly £300,000 for the property.

Sharing his footage to social media, the inspector received over 8,600 likes and more than 260 unimpressed comments.

One user said: “What is the site manager actually doing?”

Another replied: “Bellway and Persimmon. Bunch of cowboys.”

A third added: “Bellway are terrible. I tried to make a complaint about them whilst I was in the process of buying my house and they cancelled my purchase.”

Another commented: “I’ve been put off new build homes seeing these types of videos. I often wonder when it’s so badly out how they can fix it – some look like they need rebuilt.”

A fifth wrote: “Who signs this off? What do you do if you’ve bought one with all these problems?”
