Local man struggles with city council for over 24 hours to have pavement-blocking road signs moved

A LOCAL man has spent over 24 hours struggling to get road signs allegedly blocking disabled spaces and pavements moved.

Keith Bell spotted the signs indicating roadworks placed on the pavement of Sighthill Drive, blocking access and forcing pedestrians to walk on the road.

They also allegedly blocked disabled residents’ access with Keith taking note and requesting they be removed immediately.

Reaching out to the City of Edinburgh Council over social media, Keith reported the issue saying: “Can we have these signs removed from the footpath immediately please.

“Footpaths are for pedestrians, pushchairs and wheelchairs, not for road signs. Sighthill Drive/Sighthill Rise.”

The council quickly responded, stating: “Hello, thanks for getting in touch. I have passed this over to the team for their attention.”

Despite the interaction, when Keith returned home later the same day, he discovered the signs in the same place and so reached out to the council again.

The council promised the signs would be dealt with, explaining that they passed the complaint along to the relevant officer.

The council also stated that one of their road inspectors contacted the traffic management company responsible and asked them to remove the signs.

Despite all of the back and forth, the signs were still left in place with Keith now pointing out they obstructed a Safer Routes to Schools pathway.

He asked again how to have the signs removed, this time asking to escalate the issue following a 24-hour back-and-forth.

However, he was provided with a “generic inbox” to email his complaint to – before highlighting his dissatisfaction with this.

He claimed that a reply from the contact he was given could take weeks to come and that he wanted the issue dealt with immediately.

Keith was left stymied, with the council unable to pass out staff details and the signs still in place, at the time of writing.
