Fury over state of Edinburgh retail park’s Sainsburys store, as piles of rubbish found littered around site

A LOCAL has expressed fury over the state of a massive Sainsbury’s site in an Edinburgh retail park after discovering mounds of litter dumped around the perimeter.

The dumped rubbish was found this morning near the Oxfam recycling bins on the Sainsbury’s site at Straiton Retail Park.

Huge bags of rubbish were left discarded around the big green clothing bins with the livid litter campaigner filming the mess and sharing it on social media.

Discarded wooden pallets can be seen in the footage left dumped on top of the hedgerows surrounding the car park and recycling bins.

The clip even appears to show discarded bedding with large fabric sheets left dumped next to the recycling bins.

Amongst the detritus are plastic bags filled with other rubbish, a plastic bucket, discarded clothes and even dying plants.

Midlothian Council has the power to compel retailer Sainsbury’s to clear the mess left dumped on their retail site and have reportedly been contacted and asked to do so, with the person behind the camera disgusted by the state the site has been allowed to get into.

With a number of retailers operating on the Straiton Park retail site the responsibility for its cleanliness falls on them.

Sainsbury’s looks after the site around the Oxfam recycling bins where the majority of the mess was found.

The local, furious with the discovery of the rubbish, shared a video of it to social media with the caption: “Straiton Edinburgh, the perimeter around your store is a disgrace.

“Midlothian Council? you have the powers to compel these retailers to clean up their act, this is years of neglect and it’s time environmental health took action.”

Midlothian Council and Sainsbury’s have been contacted for comment.
