A BODY has been found amid the search for a missing Edinburgh man after his car was found 45 miles from his last known location.
Guy Bargery was first reported missing on Monday morning, having last been seen on Dundas Street in the Scottish capital at around 9:50am.
One day later, the 60-year-old’s grey Volvo was found in the Chapelhill area near St Madoes, Perth – more than 50 minutes away from Edinburgh.
A search was subsequently undertaken by police officers in a wooded area popular with dog walkers.
However, the search has ended in tragedy as Police Scotland confirmed last night that the body of a man was found at the River Tay near the village where Mr Bargery’s car was located.
Formal identification has still to take place, but Mr Bargery’s family has been informed.
Officers added that there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, with a report set to be made to the Procurator Fiscal.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12:50pm on Thursday, January 30, the body of a man was found at the River Tay near to Chapelhill, Perthshire.
“Formal identification has still to take place however the family of 60-year-old Guy Bargery has been informed.
“There would not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
