A LIMITED edition whisky has been released based on Edinburgh Castle’s iconic One O’Clock Gun.
The One O’Clock Gun Whisky is being sold at Stor, the online shop of Historic Environment Scotland (HES) and the Edinburgh Castle Whisky and Finest Food Shop.
Distilled at the Glenallachie distillery in Speyside, the whisky was filled into an ex-bourbon hogshead cask in 2007, where it remained for 17 years before being bottled by Edinburgh Whisky Company.
Priced at £185 for 700ml, the whisky has been limited to only 288 bottles, and has been described as having a nose of golden syrup, dried fruits and baked pastries, developing into a palate of lemon curd, ginger and more honey with a lingering spicy oak finish.
The booze was chosen specially from the inventory at Edinburgh Whisky’s bonded warehouse, bottled from a single cask at a natural strength of 56.5% abv, un-chill filtered and with all-natural colour from the cask.
Natasha Troitino, head of retail at HES, said: “The One O’Clock Gun is an iconic part of Edinburgh’s heritage, fired daily at precisly 1pm since 1861.
“What better way to celebrate this unique part of our history than with a suitably unique whisky.
“[It will be] Available exclusively on Stor.scot.”
John Moffat, head of sales at Gleann Mór Spirits Company, said: “It’s been a pleasure working with the HES team to bring this unique single cask whisky to market.
“As someone who has lived in Edinburgh for most of my life, the One O’Clock Gun has always been a familiar sound, and it’s fantastic to see this collaboration between Edinburgh Whisky and Edinburgh Castle come to fruition.
“A truly fitting tribute to an iconic city landmark.”
