Edinburgh Council to undertake additional bin collections to cover those missed during Storm Éowyn

THE City of Edinburgh Council will run additional bin collections in the coming week to make up for those missed during Storm Éowyn.

The storm battered Scotland over the weekend, bringing 100mph winds with it and causing several issues with infrastructure.

Amongst these issues was the capitals bins going uncollected, with part of the city council’s cleanup operation aimed at making up for lost time.

The city will send out crews over the coming days to collect bins, boxes and even Christmas trees that were missed on Friday and Saturday.

Crews will also be working to clean up mess caused by communal bins tipped over by the wind, their contents scattered across the street.

Residents of Auld Reekie were advised they do not need to report a missed collection; they just need to put their bins out.

The city council aims to collect all bins left out by the end of the week, with some delays expected.

They have asked that residents do their best to make sure bins are accessible and unobstructed to make the crews jobs easier.

This could involve things like avoiding parking on both sides of the street to allow room for bin lorries.

The city council said: “Bin collection services resumed on Sunday after Storm Éowyn, but we expect there to be some delays.

“We’ll collect bins that were due to be collected on Friday over the course of Sunday and Monday.

“If there are delays, please leave your bins out and we’ll get to them as soon as we can.

“We’re aware that some communal bins have been blown over or moved and crews will get to them (and other debris) as soon as possible.

“Thank you for your patience.”
