Two traffic lights left bent at near 90-degree angle in Edinburgh

TWO traffic light signals in Edinburgh have suffered serious damage amid the chaos of Storm Éowyn over the weekend, being left at near 90-degree angles.

It’s unknown what caused the damage to the traffic signals with locals theorising that they were either struck by vehicles or bent in the strong winds of the red-alert storm.

The pair of traffic lights were spotted on Saturday with one of the two taped off, seemingly under repair.

One of the two, on Leith Walk, just outside Larch Church, has been left useless to motorists with its lights pointing at the ground.

The other has been left jutting out into the road, its lights also pointed at the ground, presenting a hazard for road users.

The second appears to be under repairs with traffic cones and emergency tape surrounding it to prevent pedestrians and motorists approaching.

Both sets of traffic lights appear to have been damaged in similar ways, suffering the exact same issue.

They have both been bent at the base of their supporting metal poles leaving the lighting unit mounted on top nearly touching the floor.

An image of the damaged Leith Walk light was shared to social media on Saturday with the caption: “Traffic light for tiny cars.”

The post quickly received over 450 likes and more than 20 comments from locals cracking jokes about the damaged light.

A third said: “Me and my slightly lowered Mazda MX5 appreciate this.”

Another commented: “Bloody cyclists, causing chaos and danger on the streets.”
