“Mental” scaffolders spotted out working on roof three storeys up during Storm Éowyn

A PAIR of “mental” scaffolders were spotted out working on roofs 100 feet above the ground during a red weather warning with Storm Éowyn battering the country.

The two were spotted clambering around on the roof of a block of tenement flats in Edinburgh on Friday.

While they were working, Storm Éowyn was full tilt, blowing 100mph gusts of wind and bringing sheets of rain down on their heads.

The duo appeared to be securing a tarpaulin onto a roof that was already undergoing repairs, ensuring it didn’t blow away in the high winds.

A local who spotted them out the window while sheltering indoors said they even saw one of the roofer’s hard hats fly off.

The pair were dressed in simple trousers and hooded tops, seemingly unbothered by the stormy weather.

They were up on the slanted roof with no safety equipment to prevent them falling with one of them sitting on the top of the roof as the other climbed up to join him.

The snap of the brave roofers was captured and shared to social media on Friday with the caption: “About an hour or so ago.”

Social media users were quick to brand the two roofers both “heroic” and “mental” with the post receiving over 375 likes and more than 90 comments.

One user wrote: “They may have been securing things to minimise damage. Still, they couldn’t pay me enough to go near that scaffolding on a day like today.”

Another replied: “His wife must have an up-to-date insurance policy on him.”

A third said: “This whole thing should be reported to labour unions and other workers groups. This is insane.”

Another commented: “I’d assume it’ll be a lot more work for them if they didn’t secure things. It’s an individual’s choice.

“That could be their next few weeks wages down the drain if they just left it. People seem to think people can just choose not to work. Some people have no choice.”

A fifth added: “I had to go to work as vulnerable people needed me, nothing to do with money in this weather. What’s their excuse. They’re just embarrassing themselves.”
