Residents disgusted at discovery of used needles in Edinburgh with two instances of dirty drugs paraphernalia in one day

EDINBURGH locals have been left disgusted by the discovery of drug paraphernalia out in the open after two instances of dirty needles left littering the street in one single day.

The two discoveries occurred yesterday, one on busy central road Leith Walk and the other in a cemetery in the city centre.

The latter was spotted amongst the graves of the Old Calton Cemetery, just off Waterloo Place and a stone’s throw away from the government HQ.

The man who found the used needle was taking his family to see the cemetery, which opened in 1718 and is home to the graves of notable Scots like philosopher David Hume.

The cemetery is a popular historical site with tourists often visiting to see the graves of famous Scots as well as memorials to the American Civil War and the Political Martyrs monument.

Upon discovering the needle though, the man claims he promptly left, snapping a photo beforehand and sharing it with social media in the hopes the council would take note.

The dirty used needle was found in amongst the historic gravestones in open view of visitors to the historic site.

The Leith Walk discovery meanwhile, was seen in the open, consisting of a discarded spoon, a needle wrapper and a can of Irn-Bru.

Upon spotting it the local snapped a photo and shared it with social media, saddened by the discovery of the paraphernalia in such a public space.

The detritus was left in the open for the public to see, with the wrapper left alongside the other paraphernalia seemingly having been used to hold drugs.

The cemetery discovery was shared with the caption: “Enjoyed introducing family to the Old Calton Cemetery until the discovery of discarded needles amongst some of the tombs/graves.

“If this is open and advertised to tourists as well as locals, it needs to be sorted.”

The discovery on Leith Walk was captioned: “The most Scottish picture ever? Sadly spotted this today but the arrangement made me chuckle.”

Between the two posts there have been over 220 likes and more than 50 comments from disgusted locals.

Referencing the Irn-Bru can one user wrote: “Scoring and shooting smack all day must be thirsty work.”

Another commented: “Average Edinburgh starter pack.”

A third said: “Trainspotting.”

Another added: “A sight I’m greeted with when I want to use the communal drying green at my flat at the shore. Although it’s missing a pile of human excrement.”

A fifth replied: “Choose life.”
