City centre bar offering bizarre haggis and cranachan inspired cocktails ahead of Burns Night

AN EDINBURGH city centre bar is offering bizarre haggis and cranachan inspired cocktails ahead of Burns Night.

Johnnie Walker Princes Street is honouring Scotland’s famous bard with a Burns Supper, plus three whisky cocktails inspired by iconic Scottish ingredients such as haggis and cranachan – the dessert composed of oats, whisky, raspberries and cream.

Whilst not the usual cocktail flavours, the team at the venue’s 1820 Rooftop Bar are hoping to offer guests a range of drinks that not only pay heed to its Scottish heritage but also synonymous with the home of Rabbie – who would turn 266 years old this year.

The supper will be on the bar’s menu between 23-30 January – including Burns’ actual birthday on Saturday 25 – and is bookable now.

Iron Brew and vanilla ice cream is just one of the funky cocktails on offer.

The menu includes Cullen skink, haggis, neeps, potato cakes and whisky sauce, all finished with cranachan topped with a Johnnie Walker Gold Label custard.

Among the cocktails on offer is Iron Brew and vanilla ice cream, with the two flavours combines with a Scotch whisky.

Vault City’s Iron Brew Sour Beer is the base of the concoction, with Johnnie Walker Gold Label over ice and vanilla cream foam topping the drink off.

Dark chocolate and haggis spice is another of the boozey beverages on offer, designed by Johnnie Walker Princes Street’s head of drinks development Miran Chauhan and his team of bartenders.

Haggis spice amaro and a dash of Johnnie Walker Harris Tweed Gabriel Boudier Creme de Cacao make up the unusual cocktail.

The third highball cocktail is a light cranachan and hibiscus mixture, made up of Johnnie Walker Black Label, hibiscus syrup, vegan cream and a cranachan soda from local soft drink producer, Rapscallion.

Murray Drysdale, head bartender at Johnnie Walker Princes Street, said: “Here in Scotland we love our traditions, but known for our inventiveness and creativity, us Scots are never one to stick to the expected.

“These cocktails are a great way to enjoy Burns, while adding a little bit of experimentation and excitement along the way.

“We look forward to welcoming guests throughout January to taste the drinks we’ve hand-picked to celebrate the great Baird this Burns Night.”

The venue is offering two-for-one tickets on four of its five-star experiences until 2 February, with customers invited to book using the code JWPSJANUARYOFFER2025!

The code is applicable to the following experiences: Journey of Flavour, Whisky Explorers, Whisky Makers’ Cellar and Johnnie & The Chocolatier.
