TWO suspects appeared in court yesterday after police seized a whopping £300,000 worth of cannabis at an Edinburgh address.
Officers from Police Scotland raided a property in the Liberton area on Monday morning, where 500 cannabis plants were found.
A man and a woman present at the property were arrested in connection with the discovery, with the weed farm reportedly worth a street value well into six digits.
The man, 25, and the woman, 22, appeared in Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.
Speaking yesterday inspector Scott Casey commented on the shocking discovery in Ochiltree Gardens.
He said: “Serious and organised crime remains a priority and along with our partners and specialist resources, we are committed to detecting offences and disrupting criminal enterprises.
“We rely on the public to provide us with information to help us do so.
“If you see any suspicious activity, please contact Police Scotland on 101.
“Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website.”
Growing cannabis in Scotland carries a maximum sentence of up to 14 years imprisonment with the length of the sentence varying.
Last January, two men were caught trying to flee a disused commercial building in Greenock, Inverclyde, inside which were more than 6,000 cannabis plants worth between £1.2m and £3.6m.
Glendian Daci and Arel Xhoka – both born in Albania – were subsequently jailed for almost four years each in December.
