QR code plastered on signs on St Andrews streets alluding to lead to explicit pics found to be linked to scam website

A MYSTERIOUS QR code displayed on signs across St Andrews, seemingly the result of a jilted lover, actually lead to a scam site.

The codes were displayed across the town on sheets of A4 paper with lettering accompanying them, alluding to lead to explicit pictures of a woman.

They were spotted yesterday and today at various locations in the university town with locals reporting that the codes in fact led to a scam website.

The signs read: “She cheated on me. I’m leaving photos here for everyone to see what you did.”

However, those who scanned the codes out of curiosity were allegedly led to a website that stole the user’s data.

Warnings were issued on social media about the dodgy QR codes with locals spreading awareness of the scam.

A post online about the dodgy QR codes reads: “What’s happening in St Andrews?”

The post has since received over 365 likes and more than 90 comments from locals urging others to avoid scanning the codes.

One user wrote: “Never scan a QR code in public. IT security expert here.”

Another replied: “Too posh to cheat in St Andrews so I’m told.”

A third added: “That’s a scam.”

Another commented: “Always enlightening to see scores of people normalising revenge porn.”

A fifth said: “I’m never out [of] my overdraft anyway, send me the location [and] I’ll do it for us and let you know.”
