Mysterious pamphlet appears in Edinburgh letterboxes urging locals to link arms around Arthur’s Seat to celebrate Robert Burns

A PUZZLING pamphlet has been put through letterboxes in Edinburgh, urging locals to form a human chain around Arthur’s Seat on Robert Burns’ birthday

The double-sided letter plans for a congregation on 25 January, which is Burns Night, at either St Margaret’s or Dunsapie Loch.

The assembly is described as being a “tribute to his immortal words and an anthem to Humanity” with the letter even bizarrely going as far as asking Donald Trump to establish the bard’s birthday as an “international public ‘holy day’”.

Pictures of the letter were posted to social media, with users asking if anyone else had received the peculiar correspondence.

The document, which gives no contact name or number, states that: “This self-organising event can become an annual gathering around Arthur’s Seat, championing ‘Sense and Worth o’er all The Earth’, inspiring other human chains across the world, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, coming together to celebrate our common humanity, as ‘Jock Tamson’s bairns’ aspiring to a peaceful and prosperous future for all.”

It goes on to say: “To realise this ‘Golden Age’, January 25 can become International Sovereignty Day, in which all non-essential work and non-essential items, are set aside to allow for ‘Truth and Reconciliation’ between peoples, communities and nations, so that The Tree of Liberty can at last flourish”.

The letter also speaks of widespread poverty and wealth inequality and asks President-elect Donald Trump to “call for global truth and reconciliation, establishing Jan 25 as an annual international public ‘holy day’”, due to his Scottish heritage.

The letter concludes by championing word of mouth, as technology is “yet to be trusted”.

Pictures of the bizarre note were posted yesterday on social media, with the caption: “Just received this through the letterbox, started reading and reading and laughing…and then I was confused?

“What crazy mind wrote this? What is even the point of this? Anyone else received it?”

The post received 10 likes and 15 comments, with one user saying: “It would likely take thousands of people to link up the entire way around Arthur’s Seat, it’s not exactly wee”.

Another commented: “I received the same one and wondered too.”

Whilst a third replied: “I want one now”.

And a fourth stated: “I don’t actually have any eyebrows, and yet they still managed to shoot up my face the moment I saw the words ‘President Trump’”.
