LOCALS have been left furious by the impending loss of the Lothian Buses tracking app.
The app is planned to close and be replaced with a bus and tram alternative early this year, with locals losing what appears to be a much-loved service.
Many are concerned with the loss of the “take me home/take me to work” button, a convenient feature of the current app that allows locals to plan routes with just a tap of a single button.
Having used the new app, some locals have hit out at the service, branding it “generic” and citing disappointment at the ditching of useful features.
Locals debated the topic hotly with the majority being displeased by the new app in its current state.
One post, made yesterday to social media reads: “You will take my ‘take me home/to work’ button from my cold dead hands.”
It has since received over 130 likes and more than 20 comments from sceptical social media users.
One user wrote: “It’s such a shame, the old app was run in-house and had some really useful features.
“The new one is just a generic app (UrbanHub) with Lothian branding.
“The only good thing is mTickets being there, but that’s pointless for me at least with contactless now.”
Another replied: “Citymapper has a take me home feature, and I’ve found their bus tracking to be much more accurate than Google Maps too.”
A third said: “If you just use Google Maps, the live bus tracking is embedded into it anyway and usually pretty accurate (in my experience anyway) and will also tell you when to leave to make it to the bus stop in time etc.”
Another added: “What, don’t you want the majority of the screen real estate of the app to be an advert to download the app?”
A fifth commented: “Am I the only one who finds the new app absolutely fine? Having tickets in the app makes things way tidier.
“The only thing I don’t like about it the icon, and the fact it doesn’t have a dark mode.”
