Scots spotted skiing on Pentland Hills amid long-awaited snowfall in Midlothian

A GROUP of Scots were spotted taking to the Pentland Hills to make the most of the chilly weather to bring in the new year.

Snowfall in Midlothian and the capital has been expected all winter, with the last two days in particular bringing flurries across the region.

The Pentlands on the outskirts of Edinburgh were a hotspot for the cold weather and were covered in a dusting of snow for most of yesterday.

And one group of locals took advantage of the covering, packing their ski gear and being snapped engaging in a day of snow sports.

Dressed in bright winter gear the group of four skiers were seen making long turning tracks in the fresh snowfall.

The peaks of the hills can be seen in the background, draped in a covering of snow as a cloudy sky looms overhead.

The image of the four skiers was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Folk skiing in the Pentlands. Absolutely beautiful day for it.”

The image has received over 190 likes and several comments from social media users with some Grinches mocking the skiers.

One user wrote: “Folk skiing? 10 minutes of slog for one minute of fun. Needs must, I guess.”

Another replied after asking for the location: “There are multiple peaks in this 20-mile-long range of hills.

“I suppose Planet Earth would also be technically correct, but I was hoping for greater precision.”

A third said: “I can’t be sure, but I’ve seen people skiing on the side of the hill towards Scald Law.”
