EDINBURGH’S Leith Dockers Club has had its Christmas tree vandalised by a masked youth.
The popular social club, based in the heart of Leith, had put its decorated tree up for outside its main entrance for the festive season, but saw it targeted by a bored yob on Thursday.
The bike-riding youth was captured on CCTV cameras outside the club approaching the tree, grabbing hold of one of its branches and pulling the spruce down.
The decoration was left completely destroyed by the youth who remains unidentified, with the Dockers Club posting the footage to social media.
Locals were left outraged upon seeing the footage, wondering why the youth engaged in the pointless act of vandalism.
The Dockers Club issued a statement online, writing that this is the sort of behaviour they had “come to expect”.
Despite the setback, the club claims that the tree is now “back in place”, with any memorial baubles destroyed in the process set to be replaced.
Sharing the footage of the vandalism to social media on Thursday The Dockers Club said: “Shocking behaviour but it’s something we have come to expect these days.
“Doesn’t help [that] the gate and door is left open and anyone can walk into the club these days but as above it’s what we have come to expect.”
Their post has since received over 230 likes and more than 160 comments from locals left appalled by the mindless destruction.
One user wrote: “What did he actually get by doing that? Makes no sense.”
Another replied: “Hope their parents are proud.”
A third added: “What the actual? Absolutely disgraceful behaviour.”
Another commented: “Oh my god. How anyone can do that is beyond me.”
A fifth said: “What a sad, lovely, individual.”
