Busy Edinburgh roundabout that was for almost six months thanks to continuous spate of roadworks now set to remain closed for further four months in 2025

A BUSY Edinburgh roundabout that has been hit with months of roadworks throughout 2024 is due to remain closed for yet another four months next year.

The Cameron Toll roundabout was closed for a whopping 25 weeks – nearly 6 months – in total this year for a variety of different roadworks and repairs.

However, an announcement on Friday details plans for the roundabout to be closed or partially closed for a staggering further four months come the new year.

Essential gas works, a damaged culvert and a collapsed sewer led to the closure of the busy roundabout this year, but the work anticipated for 2025 focuses on a variety of renovations and reinforcements on the bridge running over the roundabout.

Work on the roundabout will begin on January 13 and is expected to continue for months, with April being an estimated end date.

Edinburgh MP Ian Murray shared the news of the planned four-month closure with fed-up locals on social media on Friday, echoing their frustration.

A statement from Network Rail details the planned works: “The work will include installing a new deck including a new waterproofing system, masonry and steelwork repairs, ballast retention, upgraded low bridge warning signs, and vegetation management.

“Work will start on Monday, January 13 and continue until Friday, April 11, 2025.

“In order for the work to be delivered safely, there will be night-time single lane road closures at Cameron Toll roundabout from Saturday January 18 until Friday, March 28.

“There will also be a full road closure between Wednesday, February 5 and Tuesday, February 18 when the bridge will be demolished and reinstalled.”

One local said: “Beginning to think that this roundabout was built over an ancient burial ground.”

Another added: “Sitting laughing at this. Roundabout has been closed 6months was the ideal time to do any other work or repairs needed on or near the roundabout.”

A third wrote:”Never seen such incompetent co-ordination in my life. Absolute farce.”
