EDINBURGH locals have been left thoroughly impressed by a bizarre homemade boat spotted on the Water of Leith seemingly made entirely with bins and expanding foam.
The improvised boat was spotted on Friday by the shore in Leith where the aptly named river meets the North Sea.
The ingenious DIY craft was seen bobbing on the water, and appeared to be constructed from bins, expanding foam, sheets of plastic and rope.
The small craft appears to have space for one individual to sit in and was later spotted again at a different place on the river with a homemade sail.
The sail, rigged up on a pole of some kind, appeared to be made of bin bags and acts as the power for the small craft, using the wind to move the bin boat around.
It’s unclear who created the small craft, but it has gathered a lot of attention locally from people thoroughly impressed by the creator’s craftiness.
Someone wearing a high vis jacket and wielding a paddle was seen using the craft the same day but remains unidentified.
Images of the boat flooded social media on Friday with the original post captioned: “Improvised rubbish bin boat down at the shore?
“Thought it was just a load of plastic shite until I saw the seat.”
The post has since received over 180 likes and more than two dozen comments from impressed locals.
One user wrote: “That’s very impressive, shame they’ve left it to litter the place though.”
Another replied: “How does it move? Has it got an engine fuelled by wheelie bin plastic?”
A third added: “Cool! This is the kind of thing that kids should be doing with their school holidays.”
Another said: “The engineering on this, wow.”
A fifth commented: “That’ll be the jakey cartel submarine running the drugs over fi (sic) Fife.”
