Two men convicted in supermarket machete attack on crime kingpin’s brother

TWO men have been convicted after a brutal machete attack on a crime kingpin’s brother that left him with savage injuries.

George Baigrie attacked Dale Richardson, brother of kingpin Mark Richardson, 37, with the weapon before chasing him through the aisles of a Tesco store at Gracemount Drive in Edinburgh.

Baigire, 42, who was wearing a camouflage snood, then made his getaway in a car driven by accomplice Kevin Richardson, 24.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Dale, 35, later arrived at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with a wound that had cut to the bone and caused serious damage to multiple tendons and completely severing a number of nerves.

Getaway driver Kevin Richardson, 24, was convicted of assault to danger of life.

He was then rushed by emergency ambulance to St John’s Hospital in Livingston, West Lothian, where he underwent a 10 hour operation to repair injuries that the jury was told could have caused him to bleed to death.

Baigrie and his accomplice had previously denied attempting to murder Richardson at the store on November 11, 2021.

Baigrie – who has a previous attempted murder conviction – was found guilty again on Wednesday whilst his accomplice Richardson was convicted of the lesser assault to danger of life charge.

Both men are now remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at a later date.

Detective chief inspector George Calder said: “This was a shocking attack in a public place which left a man with life-changing injuries as a result.

“We will continue to target those involved in this kind of violence as we work to make our communities safer.

“I would like to thank the public for their support and everyone who worked on the investigation.”

Victim Dale’s brother, Mark Richardson, was part of a Scottish “supergang” that built up a £200m crime empire, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The gang’s lengthy rap sheet included the torture of a man over a cocaine debt and the possession of a haul of weapons including multiple guns and a grenade.

Richardson was jailed in 2018, being handed an eight years and nine month sentence for possession of a Glock handgun.
