Police launch appeal for information following serious road traffic collision on city centre street 

POLICE have launched an appeal for information following a serious road traffic collision on a city centre street.  

The incident, which occurred on George Street, Edinburgh on Sunday saw a 63-year-old man rushed to hospital.  

The pedestrian was hit by a double-decker bus on the busy city centre street and was rushed to hospital shortly after.  

Police are now asking for the public’s assistance with their enquiries into the incident, urging anyone with CCTV footage to come forward.

They are also asking for witnesses of the incident to contact them to assist in their enquiries into the collision.  

The 63-year-old man who was hit by the bus suffered serious injuries with paramedics attending the scene.  

He was rushed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.  

The injured party has yet to be identified with police enquiries into the circumstances of the traffic collision ongoing.  

The usually bustling street was closed following the incident to give road policing officers time to investigate, before being reopened at 9pm the same day.  

Sergeant Jamie Humpage today said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch. 

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have dash cam or private CCTV which could assist to contact us.” 

Police have asked witnesses to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1703 of Sunday, 8 December 2024.
