THE City of Edinburgh Council has announced the impending opening of the new Union Canal link in the capital, alongside a newly built playpark.
The link connects Roseburn in the west of the city to the Union Canal, which runs through Edinburgh to Falkirk.
The link will be open to the public on Monday, 9 December, when an organised bike ride along the new route will be held.
Locals can also attend and walk or cycle the route on their own to explore the new pathway through the capital.
Additionally, the newly created Dalry Community Playpark will be opening to the public on the same day.
The park will host representatives from both Police Scotland and Spokes – a local bike campaigning group – at 2:30pm following the led bike ride along the new path.
Dr Bike sessions will be held at the park with Spokes in attendance where locals can benefit from bike repair and learn how to care for their cycles.
The new playpark boasts an impressive array of activities with slides, climbing frames and more being installed.
The safe cycle and pedestrian link from Roseburn to the Union Canal will see that cyclists and walkers are able to reach their destination without walking or cycling on roads.
The City of Edinburgh Council announced: “We’re opening the Roseburn to Union Canal link on Monday 9 December.”
“Join the led ride at 11:30am from the Sauchiebank entrance on Russell Road or walk the route.
“Dr Bike sessions, Police Scotland and Spokes will be at the newly created Dalry Community Play Park from 11am to 2:30pm.”
