EDINBURGH police officers and rangers were called to the scene after a dog fell from Salisbury Crags.
The accident unfolded on Saturday when the pooch plunged off the edge of the cliffs whilst allegedly out for a walk with its owner in the popular Edinburgh beauty spot.
Holyrood Park Rangers were called to the scene to assist police officers already in attendance after the pet fell.
The Salisbury Crags are a series of cliffs on the western side of Arthur’s Seat and have previously presented a danger for dog walkers and their pets.
Measuring up to 571 ft in some places, The Crags are a famous part of the extinct volcanic formation in the middle of Edinburgh.
The cliff is popular among dog walkers with paths across the top of the formation creating an ideal area for pooches to exercise.
Pups have previously fallen from The Crags, with one case in 2022 seeing a dog close to death saved after receiving a blood donation from “hero pooch Missy”.
Unconfirmed reports from some locals suggest crows are prone to dive bombing dogs to provoke them into chasing the birds over the edge of the cliffs.
One person who witnessed the pup fall on the weekend posted to social media looking for an update on the dog’s condition.
Unfortunately, no official reports have been made confirming the dog’s survival or its current medical condition – although some locals and witnesses claim it has sadly passed away.
The post to social media made the same day the dog fell read: “Hello, I was walking my dog at the bottom of The Crags when we witnessed a dog falling off the top of the cliff.
“I wondered if anyone here had any update at all?
“A post for genuine concern. I tried to call the Ranger Service, but their line was off as it is a weekend. I could see they eventually did turn up. Thank you.”
Speaking yesterday a Historic Environment Scotland spokesperson said: “On Saturday 16 November, Historic Environment Scotland’s Ranger Service in Holyrood Park received a call from Police Scotland to advise that a dog had been reported as having fallen from Salisbury Crags.
“The Ranger Service attended the incident.”
