A PROTEST that has shut down Edinburgh’s Leonardo factory continues to rumble on, as determined campaigners have blockaded entrances.
Over 100 protestors took over the site on Crewe Road North before 6am this morning, demonstrating against the supply of arms to Israel.
The aerospace firm reportedly makes components for F-35 fighter jets used by Israeli forces and has become a target for pro-Palestinian protestors in recent months.
More than three hours later, the group shows no sign of giving up, holding up banners and flags as police keep things in order.
Images show multiple entrances to the vast compound blocked by lines of masked demonstrators, defiantly remaining in position.
Police officers can be seen standing by, monitoring the situation and keeping the group away from the road as motorists are advised to drive slowly.
The banners held up read, “This factory arms genocide”, “Stop arming Israel” and “Stop the F35 contract”.
The factory has seen a number of demonstrations, with one incident in May this year seeing activists spray red paint on a statue outside the building and tampering with its internet cables.
Last month, security was stepped up with the installation of razor wire on top of the fences surrounding the site.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were aware of a protest ongoing at Crewe Road North in Edinburgh today, Wednesday, 20 November, 2024.
“Officers are in attendance and are engaging with protestors.”
