Father-son duo wins best restaurant at Radio Forth awards

A FATHER and son duo have won the award for best restaurant at the annual Radio Forth Awards, which were held on 14 November at the Usher Hall.

Bryan and Jack Coghill, who run Jack O’Bryan’s restaurant in Dunfermline, will celebrate the restaurant’s sixth anniversary in January.

Jack, who is 25, was taught to cook by his father, Bryan, who has 40 years of experience and has run restaurants in the UK, Spain and Portugal.

The restaurant, which serves Iberian cuisine, is a family affair. Bryan’s wife and Jack’s mum, Michelle, and Jack’s wife, Sarah, are also part of the team.

The team won the award thanks to the listeners at Radio Forth, who voted for this category.

Listeners also had great things to say about the restaurant, which they described as their “favourite dining experience in the city, a warm, friendly place to dine, with exceptional staff and management.”

Another said: “Jack O Bryan’s brings together the beauty of Scotland’s natural larder with the richness of Asian or Iberian cuisine.

“They aim to champion the very best produce from here in Scotland and to marry it with flavours, fragrances and textures from around the world.”

When discussing the award, Bryan said: “What can we say? Simply wow, and thanks again to the amazing listeners of Radio Forth, many of whom are clearly our loyal customers.

“We’re absolutely delighted to win Best Restaurant in these incredible Awards spanning business, the community, and the arts.

“We are thrilled with the fantastic comments made about the restaurant. We pride ourselves on our service and on our consistency.

“We’ve put Dunfermline on the map again, and have had a fantastic night here at the awards, mingling with all the other worthy winners, many of whom have incredible stories to tell.

“Radio Forth is to be commended for putting on such a great show, with so much entertainment and positivity.

“It was an honour to share the stage with performers such as Callum Beattie, who won the Radio Forth Best Artist Award.”

The duo are set to open a new restaurant in early 2025, which will be located in the former Frankie & Benny’s restaurant beside the Dakota Hotel in South Queensferry.

The Hamptons-style fish and chip restaurant will be called The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack.
