A NEW mural depicting one of the most famous scenes from Trainspotting has appeared on Glasgow’s East End for a Hollywood movie filming in the city.
James McAvoy’s directorial debut, California Schemin’, is undergoing filming in the city with the new mural featuring heavily in the background of scenes.
The Hollywood film will focus on Scottish rap duo Silibil N’ Brains’ rise to stardom, after they pretended to be American in order to be taken seriously by the music industry.
Glasgow’s newest mural is understood to have been painted recently by graffiti artist Rogue One, on a wall on Charlotte Street in the Trongate area.
It depicts Ewan McGregor’s Trainspotting character Renton shouting his famous line: “It’s s***e being Scottish.”
With the new film shooting in several locations in Glasgow between November 6 and November 20, film crews have already been spotted recording in front of the mural with images surfacing yesterday of a crew of cameramen working in front of it.
The images of film crews working around the mural were shared to social media today with the caption: “Film crew at new mural?
“Loads of cameras and a guy painting the writing black? Anyone know what’s filming?”
The image has received dozens of likes and comments from Scots excited about the new film.
One user wrote: “This is for California Schemin’ – the story of the ‘fake’ Scottish rappers, directed by James McAvoy.”
Another replied: “I hope it’s for a film, because that’s a shite mural. We shouldn’t be so negative about ourselves. I know it’s from Trainspotting but still, it’s a poor message.”
A third said: “Trying to be positive is very un-Scottish. And I, for one, strongly approve. We’re all doomed you know. Doomed, I say.”
Another commented: “There’s a spin off TV series, hopefully it’s for that.”
