Concerns raised after man spotted perilously climbing and dangling from crane completely naked

CONCERNS have been raised after a man was spotted perilously climbing up a crane in Dublin completely naked, apart from a pair of socks.

Police responded to the incident on a building site in Camden Row in the south of the city yesterday, after receiving several calls from worried locals.

Footage captured by a stunned onlooker shows the bloke clambering atop the very end of the crane.

After negotiations with officers, he was recovered and detained for his own safety.

Gardai reportedly activated an Operational Command protocol to aid in safely removing the man.

The video shows the man nail-bitingly clinging on to the metal on the end of the crane’s arm with his legs dangling.

He appears to be wearing no clothes whatsoever, but a pair of socks is visible on his feet.

As he hauls himself up to sit on top of it, the man filming can be heard saying, “what the f**k?”.

The footage was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Man in [the] nip on top of crane in Dublin City.

It has since received over 1,600 likes and more than 130 comments, many from people sharing their concerns for the man’s welfare.

One said: “Not nice. Obviously mental health issues, poor man.”

Another commented: “Poor lad, hope he is alright, obviously mental health issues.”

A third wrote: “Thank f**k he didn’t slip. Hope he finds treatment and peace.”

Another added: “Hope he got help.”

Speaking today, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí were called to the scene of an incident at a construction site on Camden Row, Dublin 2, on 6 November 2024, following concerns for an adult male who had climbed a crane.

“An Garda Síochána responded to the incident and activated its Operational Command protocol.

“An on-scene commander was appointed and Garda negotiators, along with several other Garda units, attended the scene. A cordon was established around the area.

“Through successful negotiations, Gardaí were able to safely remove the male from the crane.

“He was subsequently detained for his own safety and is receiving appropriate treatment and assessment.

“Owing to the nature of the incident, no further information is available.

“An Garda Síochána would like to thank the media for their cooperation during the media blackout.”
