RESTAURANT chain Gaucho has been praised after announcing it would be offering free steaks to blood and plasma donors this month.
The Argentinian-inspired steakhouse shared its partnership with donor reward platform WeDonate on Monday.
Those with verified donor status can redeem a complimentary 200g steak at any of its 18 UK locations.
Although it has been jokingly referred to as one way of raising iron levels after giving blood, the idea of incentivising donation has not sat well with some people.
A previous social media post regarding WeDonate, which offers exclusive discounts to donors, had Brits speculating that it could result in dishonesty in the screening process.
However, it is all above board, and receiving discounts as a reward for donating is not illegal, unlike being paid to do so.
WeDonate say they view it as a simple token of appreciation for a selfless action.
Gaucho’s post, accompanied by an image of a steak sizzling on a plate, reads: “Give blood, eat steak.
“We’ve partnered with WeDonate to give verified blood and plasma donors a complimentary 200g Cuadril steak at any one of our restaurants.
“Just a small thank you to the selfless donors for their life-saving contributions.
“Donors simply need to verify their donor status with WeDonate to redeem the offer in our restaurants.”
It was shared to social media on Monday and has since received a host of likes and comments from Brits applauding the announcement.
One wrote: “Love this. What a way to get those iron levels up after a donation.”
A second said: “Great to see selfless blood donors are being deservedly thanked.”
Another commented: “Brilliant partnership.”
A fourth added: “Well deserved.”
Speaking today, a spokesperson for Gaucho said: “Giving blood acts as a vital lifeline for so many.
“Together, Gaucho and WeDonate are honoured to recognise and thank these selfless donors for their life-saving contributions.
“As a small token of our gratitude, we’re offering donors the chance to enjoy a world-class steak to replenish their iron and potassium on us.”
