POLICE Scotland have seized a modified e-scooter, which was found to have hilariously had an exercise bike welded to it.
Officers patrolling in Inverness clocked the contraption whizzing around the city on Wednesday night.
It was confiscated from its rider after it was discovered they did not hold the relevant documents for it.
While it might have been an ingenious fitness method, the questionable adaptation left officers shaking their heads.
In the UK, it is illegal to ride e-scooters on public roads and pavements, and they are only permitted on private land with the landowner’s permission.
In snaps taken by the attending officers, the e-scooter-come-exercise bike hybrid can be seen stationary on the pavement next to a green metal fence.
The rider has welded the bike to the base of the scooter and adjusted the seat so that they can look out over the handlebars, which are positioned in line with the scooter’s handles.
A snap of the contraption was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Highlands and Islands Road Policing officers spotted this adapted e-scooter being ridden around Inverness last night without relevant docs (sic).
“Yes, that is an exercise bike welded to it. Rider reported, vehicle seized.”
It has since received a slew of likes and comments from amused Scots sharing their reactions.
One said: “Fair play for their imagination.”
A second joked, referring to BBC police comedy Scot Squad: “Sounds like something Officers Singh and McKirdy would have come across.”
Another asked: “Is that for real?”
A fourth wrote: “Imagine punishing someone for top class Scottish engineering.”
Another simply commented: “Bonkers.”
Speaking today, a spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 8.50pm on Thursday, 31 October, officers came across a modified e-scooter being ridden in the Caledonian Road area of Inverness.
“The vehicle was seized and a 31-year-old man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”
