“Truly is a Tardis” – Scots house-hunters intrigued by visibly small house that is in fact a three-bedroom property worth £650k

SCOTS house-hunters have been left intrigued by a house that appears small but is actually a sizeable three-bedroom property on the market for a whopping £650,000.

The house in Newport-on-Tay, Fife, was listed on property search site Rightmove on Tuesday by estate agents Gilson Gray.

From the front, it appears to be a tiny cottage on the banks of the River Tay – but is in fact only the upper floor of the three-storey building, which extends below street level.

Reportedly owned by an employee of Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar, which has studios in both Edinburgh and Dundee, the deceptively large home boasts further quirky features than just its size.

The white building sits at the end of a driveway, with the river behind and the city of Dundee visible in the distance on the other side.

It initially looks to only have one storey, with a turret-style room and several chimneys on the roof.

However, shots taken from the rear of the property show two further levels descending towards the water, with the sea wall at the end of the back garden.

Inside is a blank canvas with neutral colours on the walls and floors, but panoramic views over the river from most of the windows.

The spacious garden features apple and pear trees as well as a private passage down to the riverbank.

Planning permission is also in place for a two-storey extension with a rooftop terrace and sizeable garage for up to five cars

The estate agent’s description of the house reads: “This spectacular detached family home is set within a 0.7m acre plot with 100m of sea wall.

“Set over three levels and offering beautifully presented accommodation which comprises: bright lounge, dining kitchen, utility room, formal dining room, storeroom, walk-in pantry and bar and three well-proportioned bedrooms.

“The main accommodation all enjoys the spectacular views over the River Tay.

“The impressive kitchen benefits from a range of integrated appliances including a Quooker hot water tap, induction hob, extractor fan, fridge, freezer, microwave, two ovens, warming drawer and dish washer.

“The utility room also benefits from a Quooker hot water tap.

“Externally the property benefits from beautifully maintained mature private garden grounds to the front and rear of the property.

“Within the grounds there are beautiful apple and pear trees, a fantastic patio area for entertaining, useful large timber shed with double doors and connected power and access to the banks of the River Tay.

“Vehicular needs are catered for with an extensive driveway leading to parking for multiple vehicles.

“Please note there is full planning permission for a spectacular two storey extension with rooftop terrace and five car garage.

“Properties with this amount of charm and character are really brought to the market and internal viewing is essential to enable potential buyers to fully appreciate the extent and quality of accommodation on offer within this magnificent family home.”

The property was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Tiny house isn’t.”

It has since received over 480 likes and more than 110 comments from house-hunters keen to give their opinions.

One said: “That’s a great flex for the first time people see your home. They’d get there and [be] like pffft (sic) it’s tiny. Truly is a Tardis.”

Another wrote: “What a wonderful house. Yes, bland as all get out but that doesn’t matter. The actual house is lovely, and the views are lovely as well. I miss the sea.

“Minor problem: I think I’d need a lift put in as those stairs would be a bit too much for me now. Either that or I’m walking from bottom to top via the drive.

“Major problem: finding £650k.”

A third commented: “Lovely house and yes, the blandest I’ve ever seen. Truly a blank canvas.”

Another added: “It’s a clown car of a house from the road, and a decent blank canvas.

“Could be on the banks of an Italian lake, but you’re on the banks of the Tay, and looking straight at Dundee – which is your option for shopping, dining and other things that Dundee doesn’t really do that well.

“At least the schemies (sic) won’t hike across the bridge to come rob your garden, unless they’ve got e-scooters now.

A fifth joked: “What’s the catch? You’re in Fife and close to Dundee.”
