SCOTS singer Marti Pellow serenaded Glasgow commuters with an impromptu gig at Queen Street Station.
The former Wet Wet Wet frontman belted out a rendition of the band’s 1994 hit Love is All Around in the station yesterday to a crowd of shocked passengers keen to get a front-row sea to the makeshift gig.
Accompanied by a pianist and choir, the 59-year-old, whose real name is Mark McLachlan, also performed the song to staff and patients at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre earlier in the day.
A new version has been released as part of presenter Lorraine Kelly’s campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer symptoms and encourage early detection.
Another video posted to social media, this time by Pellow himself, shows him belting out the song to an impressive crowd in the Beatson’s public cafe.
Many can be heard joining in and clapping along, with the singing echoing around the space.
During his visit, he also met patients undergoing cancer treatment, and the staff members supporting them.
Later in the day, he put on a repeat performance at the busy railway station.
Pellow can be seen in the centre of the gathering in the station’s concourse, directing the choir as a pianist plays the melody behind him.
TV cameras and passengers with their phones out can be seen capturing the moment.
Pellow, wearing a leather jacket and a scarf, joins in with the singing, with a huge grin on his face.
Pellow shared his appearance at the Beatson to social media yesterday with the caption: “Huge thank you to all the wonderful NHS staff at the Beatson Cancer Charity for having me.
“You were in fine voice. Remember to keep downloading Love is All Around everyone.”
It has since received a slew of likes and comments from Scots reacting to the heartwarming moment.
One wrote: “Absolutely, one incredible gesture to help everyone love Scotland.”
A second commented: “The Beatson helped my wee sister when she had cancer twice. It’s a fantastic hospital that does amazing work.
“My sister’s fine now. Good luck with the single. It’s downloaded here.”
Another said: “Hey I heard you hated singing that song, good for you for banging it out as it brings so much joy to others.”
A fourth added: “Another hospital, that’s so lovely Marti. Are you going to do all of the cancer hospitals, or just certain ones? Take care.”
