Police respond after Morrisons lorry smashes into Edinburgh bus stop, leaving would-be passenger “covered in glass”

POLICE have responded to an incident that saw a Morrisons lorry smash into an Edinburgh bus stop, leaving one would-be passenger “covered in glass”.

The lorry, presumably stocked up with goods for the supermarket chain, wiped out the bus stop on London Road in the capital yesterday at around 5pm.

A person was reported to be sat in the bus stop at the time the lorry struck, smashing the glass and bending the metal of the structure.

Police responded soon after the collision but luckily, no injuries were reported, and it appears the only damage done was to the bus stop

Pictures shared to social media show the bus stop left in pieces by the impact of the HGV with glass strewn across the pavement.

The thick metal frame of the bus stop was left broken and mangled, but the sole occupant remained miraculously unharmed.

A post to social media yesterday shows the wrecked bus stop, it was captioned: “Lorry smashed a bus stop on London Road.

“A Morrisons lorry decided to turn on London Road rather than deal with Picardy Place, and it went right into this bus stop while someone was sitting in it.

“The person got covered in glass.”

The post has since received over 175 likes and more than 40 comments from shocked Scots who shared their own thoughts.

One user wrote: “I am glad the person is okay, that looks like it could have been a lot worse. There doesn’t appear to be much of the stop left.

Another added: “Greggs meal deal poster standing defiant, laughing in the face of death.”

A third replied: “I drove past that a few hours ago when There were police there to tape the area off already.”

Another commented: “Oh this is my bus stop to work. That sucks.”
