A TEENAGER has died after a car flew along the pavement on a busy London street leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The tragedy occurred yesterday on Barking Road in Newham, North East London when a Nissan Juke, driven by a 45-year-old male, mounted the pavement and wreaked havoc before colliding with another vehicle.
The horrifying incident saw an 18-year-old woman sadly pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of ambulance crews in attendance.
The driver of the Nissan was hospitalised for minor injuries but has since been discharged and arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and now remains in police custody.
Shocking footage, shared widely on social media, shows the incident unfold and the aftermath of the horrific crash.
Pedestrians gathering in the post-crash chaos can be heard shouting and screaming in alarm, trying to render aid to injured individuals.
A car, smashed to pieces with its entire front end caved in is seen in the video on the side of the road with a number of people standing by the open driver’s side door.
A siren can be heard in the background as emergency services rush to the scene of the horrifying collision.
The totalled car is revealed to be the Nissan Juke whilst another car, less damaged, lies a little further down the road.
Harrowing CCTV of the crash itself appears to show the moment the car ploughed through pedestrians on the pavement.
The shocking footage of the collision and the aftermath was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “This happened earlier today on Barking Road next to Prince Regent Lane.”
The video has since received over 2,200 likes and more than 245 comments from social media users left appalled by the incident.
