POPULAR Edinburgh restaurant Civerinos has reintroduced a scheme to exchange bags of beach litter for pizza.
The restaurant, located on the Portobello promenade, will provide rubbish bags and litter pickers to customers who can then exchange the full bag for free pizza.
The initiative is designed to encourage the public to keep beaches clean – rewarding them for their work with tasty slices.
Civerinos launched the initiative in 2022 and has reintroduced it this year alongside a £1 kids slice offer for the October school holidays.
Parents are encouraged to bring their kids along to the promenade and get involved with cleaning up the beach.
After school slices for £1, another initiative launched by the community minded pizza restaurant, will also continue through the October break.
The beach cleaning initiative is aimed at giving youths a fun holiday activity with a reward included.
Holidaying youths will be encouraged through the initiative to get involved with keeping the beach tidy.
Returning a full bag of litter to the restaurant will see you rewarded with a free slice of pizza whilst the litter will be properly disposed of by staff.
The initiative has been run by the restaurant for years with “Edinburgh’s wee litter picking legends” being hailed previously for their efforts.
Civerinos’ post to social media regarding the initiative reads: “Beach litter for pizza and £1 kids slices at Civerinos for October break.
“If you are looking for a school holiday activity, we are doing the bags of beach litter in exchange for Slices every day until noon.
“Stop by and ask anyone in the team for a litter picker and a bag. Fill the bag with beach litter and exchange for pizza – simple.
“Great for keeping our beach tidy whilst teaching the kids important lessons on their local environment.
“Also getting them to work some energy off and earn their lunch is never a bad thing, right?
“Civerinos will also continue doing after school kids £1 slices through the holidays, as usual Monday to Friday 3-4.
“Happy holidays friends.”
The post has since received dozens of likes and comments from locals applauding the initiative.
