TESCO has been blasted by a motorist after the charges for refilling at a petrol pump appeared to keep rising, despite the pump not even being used.
The unnamed driver had stopped off at one of the supermarket’s associated petrol stations to fill his motor up on Saturday when he noticed the dodgy issue.
Leaving the nozzle of the pump in his car – untouched – for a moment, he stole a glance at the screen and noticed the price still ticking up.
Removing the pump altogether and holding it without the trigger being pulled, he watched in bemusement as his charge kept rising by 18p just in the time it took him to record the problem.
The baffled customer films the back of his car, showing the petrol pump connected to his car’s fuel tank but with both hands off the nozzle, no fuel is being dispensed.
He then turns to film the pump itself which shows both the price and the amount of fuel dispensed, shockingly the price is ticking up while the amount of fuel dispensed remains the same.
All the while, he narrates: “Look at this. Tescos, look it’s just going up by itself.
“What is going on? I’m not even touching it – is there anything even coming out? No, look.”
He then pulls the nozzle from his fuel tank and examines it to check if it’s dripping, revealing that no petrol is coming from the pump despite the price slowly ticking up.
He holds the nozzle in front of the meters on the pump to show that no fuel is being dispensed and that the price is still going up – rising from £63.32 at the start of the video to £63.42 in the few seconds that he has been filming.
The disgruntled customer continues: “Oi Tesco mate, you owe me some money back, you owe me money back mate, look at that, charging me.”
He continues on, “Hang on lets let it get to 50p”, watching in silence as the price reaches £63.50 before replacing the pump in its holder, which seems to finally stop the price rising.
He concludes, “Absolute joke”, before heading in to pay for his fuel and the extra charge added on.
The footage was shared to social media on Saturday with the caption: “Tesco charging you for imaginary petrol.”
The clip has since received over 8,100 likes and more than 200 comments from stunned social media users.
One user joked: “Every little helps, them.”
Another said: “Which is why you always find trading standards at a Tesco.”
A third wrote: “How often is any fuel station checked randomly by weights and measures?”
Another replied: “It’s also impossible to stop at an exact pound. Always ticks over a penny.”
A fifth added: “Happens at all pumps, I noticed it a good while back at our local station, notified the staff and still f**k all done about it, they’re all guilty of it.”
