Glasgow coffee shop launches appeal to find “best barista ever” following impressive trial shift after “idiot” employee lost her CV with contact details on it

A GLASGOW coffee shop has launched an appeal to find their “best barista ever” following her impressive trial shift, after accidentally losing the CV that had her contact details on it.

Ottoman Coffeehouse on Berkeley Street, close to the city centre, posted to social media on Friday in an attempt to find the woman, known only as Hannah.

Owner Irfan Akhtar was left highly impressed with her performance and previous experience, but a slip-up saw her CV with her contact details going missing.

He has tried tirelessly to find her but says he has only been met with dead ends, resulting in a last-ditch effort to find her and offer her the job before he has to open the vacancy back up to the public.

Hannah, a student originally from Canada, had first come in with friends as a customer, then brought her CV and asked if she could do a trial shift.

She worked for two hours on 27 September and reportedly quickly got to know the set-up and the staff.

Irfan, 44, said her experience in specialty coffee shops was obvious, as she knew her way around all of the different machines.

Irfan says that it appeared Hannah wanted the job and took paperwork home with her but hasn’t been in touch since, despite being owed money for her trial shift.

Unfortunately, one of the staff misplaced her CV, which has since vanished, giving Irfan no way of contacting her.

As well as his post on the coffee shop’s social media page, Irfan has shared his plea to find the mystery woman on a page for specialty baristas in Glasgow with no joy.

Despite receiving over 600 messages from people claiming to be Hannah, Irfan claims not one of them is the Hannah in question.

The message has seemingly been spread far and wide, with people around the world left puzzled after seeing the post.

His post to social media read: “Hannah, you were in for a trial, and we didn’t call you back. It wasn’t because we don’t want you back, we do.

“Some idiot (won’t mention who) lost your CV. Hence, we lost the contact details. Abu is an idiot.

“Hannah, either way, come back in. We still owe you for the days you were in, that’s if you don’t want to work at Ottomans.

“It’s a great place to work, okay I understand the job can sometimes be stressful, and you get to work with some proper idiots.

“But you get to taste some amazing coffee.

“Does anyone know if Hannah still wants the job. If you know a Hannah who has done a shift at Ottomans, please let her know.”

Irfan then issued a further update yesterday, writing: “We continue our search for Hannah, who has been missing since her trial shift.

“We have waited tirelessly in the hopes of reuniting with her, we urge anyone who has any information to come forward, no matter how small, or insignificant.

“Your tip could be crucial in bringing back Hannah. We are grateful for the outpouring of support from our community during this difficult time.

“If we don’t hear from you Hannah in the next week, we will regretfully be opening up the vacancy to the public.”

The post has received over 1,400 likes and more than 350 comments from social media users keen to share their reactions, including several people called Hannah.

One said: “We need an update when Hannah comes back in. Bet she’s slagging you off to her mates about how she did the work and didn’t get paid and she’s not even heard back.”

A second wrote: “Give Hannah lots of raises when she’s hired.”

A third commented: “I’m in New Zealand in a small town with a restaurant called Ottoman. If this has managed to find me, I hope it finds Hannah too.”

Another joked: “Fast forward two weeks, they’ve gone viral, got a ton of new customers, and have 15 members of staff called Hannah.”

One ‘Hannah’ said: “I mean I got worried but was lured in by the promise of coffee. I am not the droid you are looking for, but I hope you find Hannah.”

Another wrote: “This felt like a targeted ad for a second. I started questioning my identity and when I did a trial shift in Scotland.”

Speaking today, Irfan said: “Hannah was one of the best baristas we’ve ever seen, she knew all the machines and got on with everyone.

“She was really happy, enjoyed the process and was even giving me tips. We’re struggling to find baristas that know everything.

“We’ll keep the position open for her for another two weeks, but if we don’t hear from her, we’ll have to open it to the public.”
