WATCH the shocking moment the roof of an Asda store begins collapsing in front of customers’ eyes after being battered by heavy rain.
A video captured the incident at Asda in West Bridgford, Nottingham on Sunday.
Multiple tiles can be seen tumbling to the ground, sending water pouring onto the already waterlogged floor whilst the car park was also partly submerged in rainwater.
With customers reportedly being evacuated outside, the shock collapse came as the area was hit with heavy rainfall, with flood warnings in place over the past weekend.
The clip shows the supermarket’s ceiling already full of gaping holes where tiles have fallen out.
The array of fresh flowers on display appear to have been well-watered, with the floor next to the plants soaked.
Suddenly, more tiles start dropping to the ground, sending cascades of water gushing into the upper level of the shop.
Thankfully, nobody appears to be near the danger zone.
The clip cuts to a shot of smashed tiles and debris littering the floor, before showing the waterlogged car park.
The footage was shared to social media on Sunday.
It has since received over 14,200 likes and more than 470 comments from Brits who seemed unimpressed by the standards of the store’s structure.
One quipped: “I just want to hear them shout out clean up in aisle 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.”
Another wrote: “Why’s this country acting as if we have never received bad rain before. Not like this roof hasn’t held up heavy rain previously.”
A third said: “Sue the firm that built this building, what’s it made of, paper?”
A fourth joked: “I’m sure they can afford to fix it especially with the mahoosive (sic) cost of their products nowadays.”
Another added: “Shame their prices don’t come down.”
Speaking today, a spokesperson for Asda said: “Our West Bridgford store experienced some flooding on Sunday as a result of heavy rainfall.
“The store was cleared and re-opened on Monday morning. We would like to thank customers for their understanding.”
