Brits left baffled after chart-topping singer Jess Glynne appears at festival in small town

BRITS have been left baffled after former chart-topping singer Jess Glynne appeared at a music festival in a small English town.

The 34-year-old headlined the IMEP (International Music Event Production) Festival in Accrington, Lancashire, last Saturday.

Performing a DJ set at the town’s cricket club, she shared the line-up with former Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt, and a selection of up-and-coming talent.

A snap of a poster advertising the festival was shared to social media yesterday, sparking discussion amongst Brits online.

Many questioned why the Grammy-winning artist, whose song “Hold My Hand” has been used in adverts for airline Jet2 since 2015, would perform at such a small-scale event.

The crowd was reportedly made up of a lot of local people, excited that such a global star had chosen their town to perform in.

Glynne took to the stage at 9.20pm and had the crowd up, dancing and belting out her lyrics.

The poster, seen tied to a lamppost, is mostly taken up with an image of Glynne, surrounded by basic black and red boxes with the necessary information.

The image was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “If anyone has been wondering what Jess Glynne has been up to. She’s in Accrington.”

The post has since received over 1,700 likes and more than 320 comments from Brits left both confused and amused by Glynne’s odd choice of venue.

One commented: “I find it weird that she does all these little gigs. More power to her if she enjoys it.

“Also, seven number 1 hits in the UK charts. The only female British artist to have achieved this feat.”

Another quipped: “Properly policed. It must not, repeat not, turn into an all-night rave.”

A third wrote: “She is minted already and sells out big venues so this is either to try new songs out or more likely just because she loves to sing.”

Another claimed in response: “It was a favour for a music event company that sponsor the cricket team.”

A fifth said: “Probably a huge cash grab for some fans with deep pockets. Good for her.”

Another joked: “Does she bat or bowl?”
