AN 80-year-old woman is set to undertake a charity challenge to walk 100 miles in a month for the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance.
Claudia Nicholson, an 80-year-old retired district nurse midwife, from Strontian, West Scotland, will be undertaking the walking challenge as part of a nationwide fundraiser.
The fundraiser is open to any participants who can choose to undertake the 100-mile challenge to raise money for their chosen charity.
Claudia follows the SCAA (Scottish Charity Air Ambulance) on social media and when she saw they were taking part, amongst other charities, in the 100 miles in October challenge she jumped at the chance to participate.
Claudia will be attempting to walk 100 miles in the month amongst others across the country who will walk, swim, cycle and run the same distance.
Participants in the challenge will be accepting donations from the public to raise money for their chosen charity organisation.
Claudia will be raising as much money as she can for the SCAA with one of her daughters helping her set up a JustGiving page online.
She will also be accepting donations in person as she takes on the 100-mile challenge with all of the money raised going to the SCAA.
The SCAA will provide her with a t-shirt to wear which she hopes will attract cash donations throughout her walk.
A previous adventurer, Claudia has undertaken charity and volunteering work in Tibet and was able to visit Everest base camp.
She has undertaken previous long-distance charity walks and is feeling well prepared for her 100 miles in October.
Claudia’s previous philanthropic walks haven’t extended to 100 miles with the upcoming challenge being the longest she has undertaken at almost twice as far as her previous walks.
She is aiming to raise as much money as possible for her chosen charity that she says is: “A vital organisation, without us fundraising we wouldn’t have that facility, in a rural locality we see it flying over frequently.
“It lands in the village occasionally, it’s such a necessity but it needs all the support we can give it.”
Feeling confident in her ability to undertake the challenge Claudia said: “My selling point is I’m 80.
“Yeah I’m pretty confident, it’s doable, I’ll pace myself and I’m doing the right things in preparation.
“If my legs don’t fall off before then I’ll be fine. It’s an essential service, never mind it’s a charity and we need to keep that service going and it needs us to fund it.”
Donations can be made to Claudia here.
