PRINCE William was met with empty streets in Aberdeen after arriving in the city to praise homelessness workers for their impressive efforts.
The Duke of Cambridge was filmed walking along Langstane Place in the Granite City’s centre yesterday en-route to the Homewards event he was due to appear at.
Unlike most royal appearances though, the prince was met with little fanfair and no crowds of clamouring residents though, with only a few photographers eager to follow him along his route.
In the video, a number of police officers and members of the royal staff can be seen standing in the street or escorting the prince but aside from them the streets are left bare.
Residents of the city appeared either not know or care that the next in line for the throne was arriving, despite his visit being announced days before.
The prince is filmed walking down the street to greet people standing outside of a business at the end of the road.
He greets the woman standing outside waiting for him with a quick handshake before being ushered inside.
The footage of the prince’s cold reception in Aberdeen was shared to social media yesterday after his visit.
The post was sarcastically captioned: “William weaves his way through the crowds of well-wishers in Aberdeen.”
It has since received over 1,800 likes and more than 200 comments from social media users.
One user wrote: “William may suffer social anxiety. He doesn’t want to face [a] crowd.”
Another said: “Presumably they have better legislation in Scotland that prevents kids being denied their education for PR for billionaires?”
A third quipped: “Can they please put up barriers next time. That’s just so dangerous. He could have been mobbed.”
Another added: “And Aberdeen is one of the most pro-monarchy places In Scotland.”
A fifth commented: “Wow. They stayed away in droves.”
